Washington, DC – If you’ve ever been to Port-Au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, the island just south of the United States which President Donald Trump allegedly referred to as a “shithole” country, then you’ll understand what he means. Port-Au-Prince is quite literally a shithole. With a population of 3 million, the city has no sewage system, people defecate on the streets and use outhouses which disgorge human waste directly into the rivers and lakes, polluting the water system which supplies the very water system which the city relies on. But Haiti is no shithole by accident. In 2010, Chelsea Clinton used her family foundation’s cash to pay for her lavish $3 million wedding, living expenses and taxes on gifts of cash from her parents – money from the Clinton Foundation that was supposed to be paid to Haiti, following that country’s devastating earthquake.
Doug Band, a former top aide to former president Bill Clinton, griped about the former first daughter’s spending in a January 4, 2012, email released by WikiLeaks. In the email Band wrote to John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign chairman,
“The investigation into her getting paid for campaigning, using foundation resources for her wedding and life for a decade, taxes on money from her parents…”
“I hope that you will speak to her and end this. Once we go down this road…”
Band’s message is contained in a chain of emails that were hacked from Podesta’s Gmail account. WikiLeaks has released more than 50,000 of the stolen emails to date.
Earlier in Band’s correspondence with Podesta, Band said he had “just received a call from a close friend” of Bill Clinton’s, writing,
“The bush kid then told someone else who told an operative within the republican party.”
Band said the “friend” revealed that Chelsea had told one of George W. Bush’s daughters that she was looking into transfers of money from the Clinton Global Initiative to the Clinton Foundation.
Chelsea then used the monies that were transferred for her lavish wedding – monies that had been donated to the Clinton Foundation for infrastructure repair in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Today, eight years on, Haiti is still quite literally a “shithole” and the Haitians have the Clintons to thank for that – at least Chelsea Clinton got the wedding she always wanted.
